Crawfordsville, IN-The Indiana Municipal Power Agency (IMPA) was presented with the Montgomery County Economic Development (MCED) “Bright Star Award” for Outstanding Corporate Citizenship.

The Bright Star was presented to Rajeshwar G. Rao, President of IMPA, following his presentation to the MCED Executive Club. Mr. Rao and Phil Lehmkuhler, Manager of Economic Development Services for IMPA, were on hand to receive the award.

IMPA is the wholesale power provider to 52 communities in the state of Indiana.  The agency was formed by a group of municipal utilities to buy power cost-effectively as a big company on the wholesale market. Crawfordsville, Waynetown, Ladoga and Darlington are all IMPA communities from Montgomery County.

Not only do IMPA member customers benefit from the low-cost power the agency is able to secure for their communities, but they also can count on the local, hometown service of their municipal utility.

“IMPA prides itself not only in the relationships we have with our local utilities and communities, but with our local economic development organizations as well,” commented Rao.  “We are honored that IMPA was chosen for this recognition and we look forward to working with MCED and other organizations throughout the state to ensure our members’ utility customers continuing receiving low-cost, reliable, and environmentally-responsible power.”

Bill Henderson, MCED Executive Director, said, “IMPA is an active partner in our economic development activities and supports MCED in our mission to retain and attract businesses to Montgomery County.

“There is new proposed environmental legislation being considered that will have an impact on the ability of our companies to be able to compete globally. We want to make sure that the legislation is fair to companies and the environment. Our thanks go to President Rao for taking the time to share his expertise with our company executives.”
