Employing approximately 300 associates, Pace Dairy of Indiana who processes and packages cheese products for distribution to retail stores will receive the Montgomery County Economic Development, “Bright Star Award” for Outstanding Corporate citizenship.

Accepting the award on behalf of Pace Dairy - the former General Manager, Pat Dilts.

Ms. Dilts, who recently accepted a Regional Retail Operations position with The Kroger Company, was a key volunteer in planning for the MCED Retention Committee. We greatly appreciate the time she donated to our community considering her very busy schedule with the Pace Dairy operation.

Capville - Alcoa CSI

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

Crawfordsville is the absolute world leader in bottle cap production.

Not only do we have Alcoa CSI producing more plastic bottle caps than any other city in the world, but their process and equipment to produce plastic bottle caps was invented here.

Crown Cork and Seal is also located here and is the only metal cap manufacturer still remaining in the United States. These two companies have an intertwining history in Crawfordsville starting back in 1932 when Robert A. Smith founded what was then known as Hoosier Crown.

Fantastic Plastic - Crawford Industries

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

MCED recently had the privilege to present Crawford Industries with the Montgomery County Economic Development “Bright Star Award” for outstanding corporate citizenship.

Founded by Ken Crawford in 1959, the company was one of the first to manufacture plastic three ring binders with the capability to custom print on the plastic cover. Sounds simple enough until you find out that traditional inks will stick to polyethylene for about 5 minutes, after which they just fall right off. This problem became an opportunity and the birth of another Crawfordsville company, Norcote. It is safe to say that Crawford industries faced and conquered many challenges over the years as a leader in quality plastic sheet manufacture, information packaging and printing

Growing faster that a speeding bullet, able to produce enough steel to construct a tall building in a single bound. Nucor Steel is the super plant of Montgomery County. Reporting an amazing average production wage of $75,000 per year, Nucor is certainly one of the best all around employers in the state. Their technological breakthroughs have resulted in opportunities to make steel faster, more efficiently, and more environmentally friendly than ever before. Nucor Steel, in Crawfordsville, was the first thin-slab cast mill in the world.
