INTRODUCTION Incentives are one of the essential tools a community utilizes to retain and attract quality economic development projects. These incentives are used to enhance the quality of life for the citizens of Montgomery County and Crawfordsville.

This information is intended to be a reference guide for businesses, elected officials and entrepreneurs in Crawfordsville, Montgomery County and Incorporated Towns. Applicants are advised to seek out professional consultation before proceeding with an abatement request; this document is not intended to be a substitute for expert legal council.

As we gear up for what we expect to be a turn around year, we are pleased to announce that the officers of the MCED Board of Directors have been unanimously elected to serve for another year. President Monty Harris, Vice President Morris Mills, and Secretary/Treasurer Mike McCormick have agreed to serve another year.

This is going to be a challenging year for our businesses and in turn, our community. Collaboration between industry, government and education are critical components in our short and long-term strategies for job retention and growth.

The economy will eventually rebound but the big question is when and what business sectors will lead the way? 

These questions present two others for our community.  Will we be ready to hit the ground running when the economy turns around, and what can we do to assist companies in retaining jobs and training people until that happens?

The first half of 2008 saw the grand opening of the Dixie Chopper Distribution Center in Waveland, and the ground breaking for the St. Clare Cancer Center in Crawfordsville.

Governor Mitch Daniels joined Dixie Chopper, RGT, County Officials and MCED, to celebrate the opening of the 150,000 square foot logistics facility already busy shipping Indiana made lawn mowers across the country.

New members and officers of the Montgomery County Economic Development Board of Directors were approved during the December board meeting. Todd Barton, Debbie Calder and Steve Seamans are the newest elected members to the board. Mr. Seamans is the Platform VP of Manufacturing for RR Donnelly. Ms. Calder is the Public Relations Director for the Indiana Department of Transportation and Mr. Barton is the CFO of Crawford Industries.

Long time MCED member Don Schmidt will be leaving the board and I personally want to thank Don for the mentoring and his service to the community.
