This has been a great year for industry expansion projects in Crawfordsville and Montgomery County with over half a dozen of our top companies already expanding or planning to invest over 200 million dollars in technology upgrades. Current local companies reinvesting is the best economic indicator that the local economy is healthy and we expect that to continue.

The Montgomery County unemployment rate in August 07’ was 3.6 % which means our employers are providing plenty of job opportunities. The Median household wage for Montgomery County in 2004 was $43,486; higher than the state average for the same year which was $43,217. As a comparison to a county similar in size to ours, Putnam County came in lower than us as well at $42,273.

We are glad to have these great companies join our MCED Bright Future initiative.  VeraSun is the new owner of the ethanol plant and Garmong, Hannum, Wagle & Cline is a design/build firm working throughout the Midwest, and other parts of the world, on development projects.

Special Event

MCED recently presented a Bright Star Award for Outstanding Corporate Citizenship to Bane Equipment of Wingate. The company is a great success story for Montgomery County.

Agri-Business and Lt. Governor Becky Skillman was on hand for their open house. She honored Phil Bane with a Distinguished Hoosier Award from the Governor for his service to the state of Indiana and also agreed to present our award to Mrs. Bane.

MCED Board of Directors

      Long time member, Monty Harris accepted the nomination and was unanimously elected to serve as President of the MCED Board.  John Greavu will be Vice President and Roy Kaser will remain the Secretary/Treasurer. President Harris appointed Jim Luzar Community Development chair on the Executive Board.

The directors are an essential part of our organization, thanks for what you do for MCED and the community. All of us at MCED welcome newly appointed Board members; County Councilman Richard Chastain and Wabash College President, Patrick White. We also welcome Akers Construction as our newest partner in Project “Bright Future”.
