MCED DECEMBER EXTRA
As we gear up for what we expect to be a turn around year, we are pleased to announce that the officers of the MCED Board of Directors have been unanimously elected to serve for another year. President Monty Harris, Vice President Morris Mills, and Secretary/Treasurer Mike McCormick have agreed to serve another year.
We are losing two of our Executive Board members, Scott Sommer(Retention Committee Chair) and Jim Luzar (Community Development Chair) will be leaving the organization. President Harris thanked Jim and Scott for their service at the December board meeting and presented them with appreciation awards for their service to
As you run into them around town, please welcome Sherry and Mark to the board and say thanks to Jim and Scott for generously donating their time to the community.
Todd Barton of Crawford Industries has agreed to chair the Retention/Stabilization committee to replace Scott. Todd has been serving on the committee and we are grateful that he has agreed to lead the effort this year.
Patricia Overpeck of RR Donnelleyhas been appointed by Commissioner Harry Siamas to serve on the Regional Workforce Development Board as a representative of Montgomery County. This board is an important regional employer alliance that advises state officials on workforce issues; she is well qualified for the task.
Everyone is feeling the effects of the economic recession but it is especially tough for the folks who have lost their jobs and can use our help readjusting. We have formed a county/city emergency response teamto offer them support and find new business to replace the loss of major employers, Friction Holdings and Fleetwood.
We have added new links to our HoosierEmployer.comwebsite for WorkOne services and grants to provide extra training opportunities for our county’s workforce needs.
We do have local expansions and new opportunities in the pipeline for 2009, so not all of the news is heading the wrong direction for next year.
Take time during the holidays to take a deep breath, strengthen ties with friends and family, and plan to hit the ground running in 2009.
