MCED EXTRA - December 2007
MCED
!EXTRA!
New members and officers of the Montgomery County Economic Development Board of Directors were approved during the December board meeting. Todd Barton, Debbie Calder and Steve Seamans are the newest elected members to the board. Mr. Seamans is the Platform VP of Manufacturing for RR Donnelly. Ms. Calder is the Public Relations Director for the Indiana Department of Transportation and Mr. Barton is the CFO of Crawford Industries.
Long time MCED member Don Schmidt will be leaving the board and I personally want to thank Don for the mentoring and his service to the community.
Monty Harris was re-elected board president, Senator Mills will serve as vice president and Mike McCormick replaced Roy Kaser as treasurer.
Todd has been an important part of the MCED retention committee this year and Debbie will be on the Executive Board as the Community Awareness chair.
Newly elected Mayor Charlie Coons will also become an ex-officio member of both the full and executive boards.

Congratulations to Amber who made the very prestigious Honors List at Purdue University. As most of you know Amber does a great job as office administrator for MCED and evidently is also one of Purdue’s finest.

The fourth quarter has been a good one for development initiatives. The Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of Realtors® has awarded MCED $11,000 in grant funding to continue the land use planning for the Nucor Road Industrial Corridor and Sewer District. The county and Environmental Management Corporation (EMC) are partnering with Nucor, MCED and now MIBOR to develop the Industrial Corridor infrastructure and “Site Readiness”.

We have also received word today that the state has awarded us $40,082 to move ahead with the brownfield assessment study to redevelop the old Culver Hospital site. This study will allow us to proceed with the remediation funding to assist the private developers in cleaning up and rebuilding the site. So there are some nice presents under the MCED tree this year.
The Crawfordsville Commerce Park has been designated as “Shovel Ready” by the state which has created much new interest in the park as the Indiana Economic Development Corporation begins their marketing of the state’s shovel ready sites. We do have a company coming in for a site visit in January.
We are seeing a record number of new business projects and local expansions in the community. We also have two 100 mega watt wind farming projects under consideration in the northern part of the county.
These wind energy projects represent hundreds of millions of dollars of new investments and another renewable energy agribusiness for the county and region.
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Bill Henderson, Executive Director
Amber Kelly, Business Office Administrator
