MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ind. - Concern over the future of Friction Holdings, LLC’s Crawfordsville manufacturing plant led to a meeting of community leaders on Thursday. Montgomery County Economic Development (MCED) President Monty Harris and Executive Director Bill Henderson met with Crawfordsville Mayor Charlie Coons, State Senator Phil Boots, County Commissioner Phil Bane and County Councilman Dick Chastain, all of whom are members of MCED’s board of directors, to explore community options to help retain jobs at Friction Holdings, LLC.
Harris says, “MCED along with state and local officials are committed to keeping this plant in operation. We are willing to work with present management to do whatever we can to keep the 445 jobs here in our community.”

This is going to be a challenging year for our businesses and in turn, our community. Collaboration between industry, government and education are critical components in our short and long-term strategies for job retention and growth.
The economy will eventually rebound but the big question is when and what business sectors will lead the way?
These questions present two others for our community. Will we be ready to hit the ground running when the economy turns around, and what can we do to assist companies in retaining jobs and training people until that happens?

Montgomery County Economic Development (MCED) recently awarded their “Bright Star Award” for Outstanding Corporate Citizenship to Vectren Corporation, the county’s natural gas provider.
“Giving back to the communities in which we live, work and serve is at the very heart of our company values,” said Vectren’s director of economic development Ron Keeping. “We’re honored to be receiving this award and thank the residents of Montogomery County for this recognition.”
Vectren Corporation has given generously to educational programs through Wabash College, Crawfordsville and South Montgomery Schools in addition to reaching out to various nonprofits such as the Montgomery United Fund for You (MUFFY) and the Area IV Agency on Aging.

Montgomery County celebrated the beginning construction of a new terminal building for the Crawfordsville Municipal Airport on Thursday, July 24th 10:00 am at the Airport.
Dave Sulc of Nucor, Senator Phil Boots, Mayor Charlie Coons, County Commissioner Phil Bane and others were there with their shovels.

The airport is currently under construction to improve and expand the terminal apron area and fueling services. The terminal was designed by local architect Akers and Associates and is being built by Garmong Construction Services of Terre Haute.

The first half of 2008 saw the grand opening of the Dixie Chopper Distribution Center in Waveland, and the ground breaking for the St. Clare Cancer Center in Crawfordsville.
Governor Mitch Daniels joined Dixie Chopper, RGT, County Officials and MCED, to celebrate the opening of the 150,000 square foot logistics facility already busy shipping Indiana made lawn mowers across the country.
